• Hospice is a program for those who have a terminal illness with a life expectancy of 6 months or less. It is medical-driven, with the goal of providing pain relief and symptom management through the use of medications, supplies, and equipment. Medicare (and occasionally Medicaid) covers the costs of these items as well as a team of nurses, home health aides, social workers, spiritual counselors, volunteers, and other specialists. Because hospice is predominantly supported by federal funding, organizations must abide by regulations which are closely monitored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

• End-of-life doulas are not regulated by any government agencies, which allows for more flexibility and availability in our work. Doulas can offer care to anyone at any stage of life using a non-medical approach that encompasses emotional and spiritual support, planning guidance and resources, and companionship. Unlike hospice, doula services are currently not billable and therefore the client is wholly responsible for payment.

Absolutely! There is a lot of overlap between hospice and end-of-life doulas, and they can work in tandem to provide maximum care and comfort for our shared clients. If you are or your loved one is already in hospice, I can offer extra support and attention that the hospice team is limited to providing due to federal regulations and time constraints. Likewise, if you or your loved one are not eligible or ready for hospice, I can be present as your doula until you are, and even help you with making that decision.

We will meet for a 1-hour initial consultation wherever you are most comfortable. Whether you would prefer a phone or video call, meeting in a public setting, or inviting me into your home, I want to connect with you to understand who you are, where you currently are in your life, and your personal goals. From there, we can work together to come up with short- and long-term plans based on your needs and our mutual availability. I aim to be flexible and accommodating as this is your journey - I'm simply coming along for the ride!

The initial consultation is free of charge. All following interactions including phone and video calls will be $75/hour. Payments can be made through cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal following each visit.
